The web page that I found is a page of the Union Public Schools (in Oklahoma) dedicated to their stategy of helping ELLs. I learned alot from this website. For instance, I did not know that the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLBA) had provisions to account for English Language Learners, and allocated money for programs aiding English Language Learners. The NCLBA provides funding for schools to provide quality language instructions and support staff to help assist teachers with ELLs.
While I learned alot from the site, my personal feeling was that the website made it seem very easy and sunny to help ELLs. It listed its methods including inclusion, pull out, and mainstream, but I think the reality of the situation is that's its very difficult to teach English Language Learners. As for the funding, the reality is that there just isn't enough to provide the proper help to all of the schools.

Your post is chalk full of usefull information and is well written. I did however have a problem acessing your link. I like the personal opinion at the end about the site but you this site does seem to have more negatives than pluses.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading you summary and looking through your website. Although I couldn't view anyone's movie maker or photo stories, I did enjoy viewing your website. It was full of very useful information that would be very beneficial to E.L.L. students. I agree that the situation must be difficult for students to not only learn another language, but to learn other subjects in the language that they are currently learning. There should more funding for these students in order to use more technology to help them learn more easily.
ReplyDeleteoh no! I hope I did the photo story correctly, I'm worried if you can't see it.
ReplyDeleteThe negativity was more about the funding and No Child Left Behind Act, not the site.
